You don't really have to eat before an IV drip. At Key Basis IV, we suggest a light snack, like an apple or a sandwich, if needles usually make you nauseous. If you're dehydrated, drink some water so your veins are easier to find. The drip you should eat before is the NAD+ IV, or any drip with NAD+ in it, since NAD+ can make you feel a little uncomfortable.

What should you eat if needles make you nauseous?

If you usually get nauseous around needles, have something to eat before the nurse comes. It doesn't need to be anything crazy: an apple, a sandwich, whatever you have.

Which IV drip should you eat before?

The NAD+ IV is the drip you should definitely eat before, and so is any drip with NAD+ in it. It can make you feel a little uncomfortable, and it could make you nauseous. That's why it's better to have a full stomach, or at least a somewhat full one.

If you're planning an NAD+ IV, book it for after a meal. It's $479 for 250mg, or $240 with the membership. If you feel any discomfort during the drip, the nurse can slow it down right away.

What if you're hungover and can't face food?

You don't have to eat. On a hungover morning, the nurse isn't going to tell you that you have to. Eating something may help, but it's really up to you.

If that's you, the Hangover IV is the drip on our menu for a rough morning after. It has a saline base with a mineral blend, vitamin B complex and vitamin C, and it includes ondansetron for nausea. It's $249, or $125 with the membership.

Should you drink water before the nurse arrives?

Yes. Have some water for sure and get your veins pumped, especially if you're dehydrated. Water makes your veins a little more plump and visible. They're a lot harder to find when you're really dehydrated, so even a bit of water helps.

Can you have alcohol before an IV drip?

Alcohol isn't something we encourage, but it's also not something we babysit. If you happen to have a drink before the nurse arrives, that's understandable. If you have one during the IV, we won't get in the way unless we feel there's a medical reason you shouldn't drink.

Say you just got off a flight. You're visiting Miami, and you want a post flight IV before your whole trip starts. You're at your hotel or a house you rented, and the butler brings out welcome drinks. Unless there's a medical reason, we're not going to tell you to save your welcome drink for after the IV. That wouldn't make any sense.

That being said, we do have a zero tolerance policy for drugs.

What should you have ready when the nurse arrives?

Just have the area ready where you want to set up. That's all.

Do you have to sit still for the whole IV?

No, and this is what first timers most often get wrong. They think they have to sit in one spot for an hour and aren't allowed to do anything else. You can get up and walk around with the IV pole during the infusion. You can go to the restroom, watch TV or do whatever else you need to do.
