Do I Need a Prescription for a Mobile IV in Miami?

For most people, no. You do not need to bring a prescription or see a doctor first to get a mobile IV with us in Miami. There are specific situations where we will ask for that kind of thing, and I will walk through them below, but for a normal, healthy adult, our own medical review is more than enough. Every client is evaluated by a nurse practitioner before we proceed, and the person actually running your infusion is a registered nurse.

This question comes up a lot, usually from people who are used to a clinic model where nothing happens without a doctor's slip. So here is how it actually works on our end.
When do we ask for a doctor's note?
The main one is post op. We get a lot of people who just had a procedure, a BBL or lipo being the most common by far, and if you are post op we will generally have you speak to your doctor first. We would want some kind of note from them confirming they believe this is appropriate, because we are not going to give you something arbitrarily. That note also helps us get the details we need, the specifics of the operation, the timeline, what medications you were given, all of which matter for doing this safely.
There are a couple of other cases. If we are doing something like an iron IV drip, if there are real questions about the health of the client, or if someone is older, we may ask them to send a note from their doctor or have their physician approve it first. Outside of situations like those, our approval process handles it.
Is a nurse even allowed to do this?
Yes, a hundred percent. The people doing your infusion are registered nurses who work directly under our Medical Director, Dr. Harelle C. Duncan. They are authorized by her to follow her instructions and operating procedures for who can proceed and who cannot receive our services. These are highly qualified clinicians who work in hospital settings all the time, so starting an IV and monitoring you through it is well within what they do. There are certain things they are not permitted to do, and they do not do those things. Staying inside that scope is the point, not a limitation.
If you want to understand the framework in more detail, we lay it out in our clinical standards.
Who reviews my information before the visit?
This is where people have the wrong picture. Dr. Duncan does not individually review each client's information before every visit. What she does is oversee the practice, reviewing our clients over the course of the month to make sure each client's plan makes sense, and approving the services we provide and the protocols we follow.
The visit level review is done by our nurse practitioners. They go through your medication history, your medical conditions, your allergies, and the other things that actually determine whether a given drip is safe for you. On top of that, you fill out a separate intake form, so there is essentially a double check on every client. Between the nurse practitioner's evaluation and your intake, we can verify that you are eligible before anyone starts anything.
What if I want a specialty drip today?
Some drips are not same day drips, and iron is the clearest example. A lot of the time, iron IV clients do not have the right labs, or their results are not complete enough, and it requires more information before we can move forward. When someone in that spot wants it same day, we tell them we cannot do it, and that is that.
We stand strong on that. We are not going to go against our protocols even when we want to help someone and they could technically, maybe, be seen. We follow the rules and we stay by the book, and honestly that is the version of a mobile IV company you want showing up at your door. The providers who will give you anything you ask for same day, no questions, are not the ones being careful with you.
The short version
A normal, healthy adult does not need a prescription or a doctor visit to get a mobile IV with us. We will ask for a physician's note in specific cases, mainly post op clients, certain specialty drips like iron, and situations where health history or age raises a real question. Otherwise, the nurse practitioner evaluation plus your intake form is the review, and a registered nurse working under Dr. Duncan handles the rest. If you are ready, you can book a visit, and if your situation is one of the ones that needs a note first, we will tell you exactly what we need.
